This page explains what Global Marathon Routes does with information when you visit it, in plain language rather than legal boilerplate. It covers the whole site: the course pages, the race directory and the advertising served alongside them.
What we collect
Nothing that identifies you by name. The site is a static reference: there are no accounts, no logins, no comment forms and no newsletter. What leaves your device is the ordinary request data your browser sends to fetch a page — your IP address, the page asked for, your browser type — plus the requests made by the third parties listed below: the map tiles, and the advertising that pays for the site.
Stored on your device
One preference is saved in your browser's local storage so the site remembers it between visits: your light or dark theme choice. It stays on your device, is never sent to us, and disappears when you clear your browser storage. Language is not stored on your device: each page carries its language in its URL, English at the site root and Simplified Chinese under /zh/, so a shared link always opens in the language it was shared in.
Third parties
Map tiles are served by OpenStreetMap and CARTO, and the advertising is served by Google AdSense, which chooses and measures ads with the help of cookies and device identifiers. Those requests necessarily reveal your IP address to those providers. Fonts are self-hosted, so no font CDN is contacted. Links here lead to race organizers and reference sites, which have their own privacy policies.
Cookies and advertising
The site sets no cookies of its own and runs no analytics of its own. Advertising is the exception, and it is Google's rather than ours: Google and its partners may set advertising cookies or read device identifiers in order to select and measure the ads you see. You can limit that in Google Ad Settings or through your browser's cookie controls.
Your choices
There is no account to close and no profile of you held by this site, so there is nothing here to export or delete. Advertising is controlled at Google, with the settings linked above. In regions that require consent before personalised advertising — the EEA, the UK and Switzerland — Google serves non-personalised ads, because this site does not ask for that consent. If you have written to us by email, that message is kept only as long as it takes to answer it, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.
Changes to this notice
This notice changes when the site does, and the date at the top of the page changes with it. The most recent revision, in October 2026, added the description of the advertising now served on the site; before that, the site ran no advertising at all.
